Fashion + Magento; The Best Dressed eCommerce Site

If you’re in the fashion industry, you know that attention to detail is a must. You want to highlight and organize your products in the most streamlined way, and make it easy for customers to find exactly what they are looking for. You need to be able to merchandise your products, showcase the new collections, and offer great sales on last season’s pieces. What you need is an eye for style, and Magento.

Fashion and Magento go together like cozy sweaters and apple picking. Many of the fashion brands you already know and love are already on Magento, and making the platform kill it for their eCommerce needs.

I don’t mean to name drop, but:

… are just a few of the thousands of fashion brands using Magento to sell their pieces online.

But why are these brands on Magento? Well, I’m glad you asked.

1.) Categories, Categories, Categories!

Magento is second to none when it comes to its categorization abilities. There is an endless amount of categories that you can create, and you have the flexibility to organize your categories in any way that you see fit. You can organize your collection by gender type, piece type (shirts, pants, etc), size; the options are really quite endless.

2.) Attributes

Attributes is really where Magento works the best for fashion brands. You have the ability to associate key details to a product, that can help you organize your products, and then help you sell the exact product to the customer.

Popular fashion attributes are:

  • Color
  • Size
  • Fabric Type

By using attributes, you can classify that new blouse, and help customers find exactly what they are looking for. Plus, attributes can help determine how your products will function in your store.

3.) Simple and Configurable Products

More likely than not, if you are selling any piece of clothing, it probably comes in multiple sizes. But how do you represent that your new jacket comes in three sizes? Do you list the product three times on your site? Absolutely not! You create simple and configurable products.

By using Magento’s simple and configurable product features, you create simple products that differ only by attribute (like size). Then, you create one configurable product, and associate the simple products to the configurable product.

For example, if your new collection has a jacket that comes in three sizes, you would be creating four products in Magento, giving you the ability to assign unique SKUs to each variation:

  • Size Small Jacket (simple product)
  • Size Medium Jacket (simple product)
  • Size Large Jacket (simple product)
  • Jacket (configurable product)

Then, on the site, customers will only see the Configurable product. Once they get to the product detail page, they will see a drop down where they can select the exact size they want. Violà!

4.) Merchandise Your Collections

In some versions of Magento, you can easily merchandise and organize your products in each category. You can have the ability to drag-and-drop products, so that you can curate exactly how you want the products to be laid out. You can also sort products so that the best selling products are shown first, or even list sale items last (to keep customers engaged on what’s new).

5.) Conclusion

Magento would be be a great solution for any fashion brand that wants to sell their products online. Magento will help you organize, merchandise, and sell your collection to your fans customers. And lucky for you, here at iFuel, we’ve worked with many fashion brands in helping them reach their online goals. I don’t want to brag, but a certain FLOTUS* wore one of our client’s dresses while co-hosting The View. Just sayin’…
